Wedding Cake
The design that you have decided upon for your wedding
cake will reflect on the style you have chosen for your
wedding and the colours that you are using. The
traditional cake is white cake, but there is a trend
towards much more creative flavors such as: Banana,
chocolate, carrot, and fruitcake. Try to have alternate
layers and use fillings that will delight everyone's taste
buds. If the theme of your wedding is seasonal you may
wish to tie the theme into the cake. For example spice for
spring or fruitcake for winter. The groom's cake, which is
often fruitcake, is boxed and sent home with the guests.
The shape of the wedding cake is usually round, square, or
heart shaped. Bakery pillars or wineglasses may be used to
separate the tiers. If you are planning on having a very
large wedding you may wish to have extra slab cakes made
to ensure that everyone gets a piece. The top tier of the
cake is usually left uneaten at the wedding and then
frozen until the first wedding anniversary. Some people
will have an artificial cake made or ordered and then have
slab cake to serve their guests.
There is a large variety of decorating options for a
wedding cake. Icing can be coloured in order to fit in
with the colours of your wedding. Icing swirls, beading,
and/or bordering can help the cake to have a very delicate
look. Use the same flowers that are in the bride's bouquet
to tie in the wedding's theme. When using flowers on the
cake it is important that you choose non-poisonous types!
Cherubs, wedding bells, hearts, and lovebirds are all
considered traditional wedding toppers. The topper of the
cake is a momentum that you can cherish for many years to
come. You may want to use the topper for your cake that
your parents used at their wedding. When cutting the cake
the groom's right hand is placed over the bride's hand and
the two cut the bottom layer together. The first slice of
the cake is to be shared by the bride and the groom.
Traditionally the bride's in laws are served first, then
the grooms and then you continue with the rest of the
guests. You may want to consult your caterer and see if
they will take care of the serving of the cake.
